M-Net is searching for young performers to take on the roles of Troy and
Gabriella in Pieter Toerien and Hazel Feldman’s production of High School Musical: Live On Stage.
Meet the eight performers who made it through to the Top 40 stage in Cape Town:
High School Musical: Live On Stage opens at Artscape in the Cape Town Opera House on 26 November, 2008, and will move to the Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg in February 2009.
The presenter of High School Musical: Spotlight South Africa, 25-year-old Dalen Lance, is also a Capetonian, having grown up in Atlantis. In fact, the entire Creative Panel is from the Western Cape: choreographer Lorcia Cooper is Cape Town born-and-bred, musical director Charl-Johan Lingenvelder grew up in Villiersdorp and studied in Stellenbosch, and director Paul Warwick Griffin lives in London nowadays but the fairest Cape is still his hometown when he’s in South Africa. And of course the legendary impresario Pieter Toerien has transformed Camps Bay with his Theatre on the Bay.
So it’s only fitting, then, that High School Musical: Spotlight South Africa will mark the first time that an M-Net reality series will be broadcast live from Cape Town. The show will be based in Cape Town as of 2 August and move to Johannesburg from 6 September. High School Musical: Spotlight South Africa will be broadcast weekly on Mondays and Saturdays at 19:00.
