Mzansi's Most Popular Weekend Activity
Having a Braai (it beat drinking & partying! Probably because it also involves eating, and is reasonably compatible with watching sport) got top honours. Also popular: going to the cinema, chilling and listening to some tunes, and watching TV or DVDs. On the fringe: playing dominos, and er... that.

Who are you?
  • You're 52% Female, 48% Male
  • 20% of you define your race / ethnicity as "South African", shunning the standard SA terms "white" (58%), "Coloured" (8%), "black" (7%),  or "Indian/Asian" (6.5%)
  • Most of you have a post-matric qualification (or more than one).
  • Most of you are employed full-time. In fact we’re pretty sure you filled in the survey on company time!
  • Most of you are middle-class, and some of you are pretty damn rich.
  • You seem quite current – the more recent the music and movies, the more likely you'll like it.
  • But you have classic tastes – and you're loyal to bands like U2, who were also big in the 80s and 90s.
  • Most of your top choices aren't the top songs played by the radio personalities you voted for, according to audited radio play data from afsterio .
  • Most of you are between the ages of 25 and 34 years, with large numbers in the 18-24 and 35-44 ranges too.
  • Most of you live in the suburb of a major city, or within the city itself.

Jean Barker; The summary of the statistics were brilliantly done. Not too simple. Not too complicated. Not too funny. Not too boring. I wish you were working for me.

U2 started their downward trajectory when Bono got involved in politics, and that's almost a decade ago. They produced a few good ditties during their existence, but they've hardly rewritten the face of music, have they? Ditto for Sting wrote even better songs, and killed his career by becoming involved in ... yes ... politics. Musicians beware.

@neil @craai It won a Grammy in 2001, so it couldn't have been released before 2000. It's off a 2000 album and definitely didn't hit SA til this decade. Can we stop talking about this now ;-) Thanks.
NeilA @ Craai 12/11/2009 11:31 AM
i think it was released as a single first, in 98/99, i was in a band in 98 and we did a cover of it, not that our cover was very good

I have still to digest the 2010s... amazing changes, everything so fast ( for what????(For ouraelf's sake!!)... but the 1990-09... well: the ipod, the electric songs, lady di, airton senna, obhama, Lula ( the brazilian president), no matter if you black or white thing!, the consolidation of the SA's democracy and the empowerment working here, the 2010 WORLD CUP and all the good things brougth with, althoug the international crysis.. God bless South Africa, God help us to save the planet.!!!
Craai 12/10/2009 4:36 PM
