The Funny Club
Being personally involved in the comedy community has really opened my eyes to the amazing talent we have floating around this beautiful country of ours.

The guys and gals of comedy know how to poke fun at everyday life, as well as talk about the real issues we face as a country with such an intense past.

Most of you know about the founding funnies of SA, such as prankster Leon Schuster, oom Pieter Dirk Uys / Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, everyone’s favourite cousin Barry Hilton, and Marc Lottering. But do you know about the up and comers? (No, I don’t mean Trevor Noah. That guy has already made a big name for himself and is making us super proud wherever he goes.)

Some of you will know about the hysterical Nik Rabinowitz whose gags never cease to turn the whole audience into a bunch cackling hyenas; Stuart Taylor whose shows highlight the funny side of day to day problems; Loyiso Gola, who hit the spot with his spoof news channel Late Night News with Loyiso Gola; and Kurt Schoonrad, who is loved by all and who helps keep comedy alive by running the 'Jou Ma Se Comedy Club' which gives young comedians a platform to perform and get their names out.

But how about getting to know some more? There’s Deep Fried Man and Tats Nkonzo, both Joburg based musical comedians; Mel Jones and Tracy Klaas, single mothers in Cape Town who show there’s still a lot to laugh about; Schalk Bezuidenhout and Piet Potgieter, Afrikaaners living in a new SA; KG, the Sangoma’s son, and Siv, the white black guy; as well as Kellyn Coetzee, Shimmy Isaacs, and Anne Hirsh who add to the female power.

So if you’re feeling down and in need of a pick-me-up, or if you’re just looking to have a good time with some friends, why not give your local pub or club a shout and find out where you can go get some laughs. Help support these guys in doing what they love.

Proudly SA all the way!
