I'm really disturbed and disgusted by the amount of vitriol filling the air since we announced that Lady Gaga would be performing in SA.
It's neither here nor there for me - I won't be fighting with Computicket for tickets to her show, but I'm ecstatic for all her SA fans who are doing their nut right now because they get to see their idol.
So why are so many people so very upset that she will be performing in SA?
Some say she's a devil worshipper, others proclaim she's just plain evil. It's not even disinterest - there's just so much hate being spread around on our comment boards. Some even want to start a petition. Guys, this makes me sad.
As one reader commented: "We live in a secular state" so why should Lady Gaga's religion - or lack thereof - matter at all when it comes down to a musician putting on a good show?
Let's celebrate that more big acts and not only Zzz-listers are coming to perform in our beautiful country.
Let's celebrate the fact that our stadiums are being used and not becoming white elephants.
Let's put our paws up and give everyone the freedom to enjoy their favourite artists - no matter who they are and what they believe - as long as they're not hurting anyone.
To be honest, I was a little disappointed after a weekend filled with anticipation. I really wanted Big Concerts to make my dream come true and bring the Foo Fighters to South Africa. But alas, maybe next time.
And I'd be pretty bummed if people tried to stop them from coming here. What happened to SA being a warm, welcoming country?
