Beauties and Becks

The Miss World shindig in Cape Town on Thursday turned out to be far less glamorous than the contestants. But that doesn't mean there was shortage of gossip to report on!

Check out our Miss World contestants gallery!

I was at the One & Only Hotel to photograph the Miss World contestants. No zooming out necessary – these girls are so tiny you can fit them in a snow globe! Later however, I was severely distracted by the party having lunch inside. It was David Beckham.

I totally kept my cool. As I came back into the hotel, I took a couple of (admittedly bad) photos of Becks. Walking out, I was chuffed with my newly acquired paparazzi skills. Until a security guard came chasing after me and forced me to delete the photos of "Mr Beckham" as his assistant vehemently proclaimed "It's on private property"!

Sure, sure, it's private property, but David Beckham isn't. He belongs to the masses who buy trashy magazines just for a glimpse of his Armani's peeking out of his jeans. I obliged as there wasn't much to see anyway, so I'll just tell you that he's as good looking and brooding in real life as he is in any advert.

We were invited to attend a Miss World fashion show later in the evening. All excited to see the many different poses the girls could strike, we were told it's been cancelled. Sommer net so. Just like that. All decked out, we stood around waiting for someone to at least offer us a glass of champagne for our trouble. No such luck. Snacks maybe? A few Lindt truffles were on offer to make us feel especially big next to these lollipop ladies. And weird skewers of what could only be described as boiled bacon. Eeew. This from a '6-star' hotel?

With no drink in hand, all I could do was gawk at the few psuedo celebs that graced the event. Former Miss SA Claudia Henkel swanned around looking like someone stole her Moët, Michelle McLean looked lovely and Lean as ever, and former Springbok Percy Montgomery (who's surprisingly short) and his gorgeous wife Tasmin Tobbitt put up a smiley, united front, trying to put that assault charge to rest.

Tracey McGregor was also in attendance in the skimpiest little jumpsuit, and All Access presenter Tammy-Anne Fortuin and her BFF, celeb blogger Clayton spent the evening catching up on gossip. Even celebs like to know what other celebs have been doing behind closed doors!

And so, with no action, not a single sighting of a beauty queen and Becks nowhere to be seen, we hightailed it outta there. To our detriment...

Becks arrived a few hours later and was more than willing to be snapped! Grr...
