Local soapie Generations has taken the issue of homophobia to a new level.
Last year we reported on the drama of the first kiss between two men on the local series, and it seemed to be more of an upset than a win for gay rights.
The storyline was never abandoned though, despite furious facebook groups threatening to boycott the show if they continued with gay characters.
On Tuesday 23 March, Sibusiso (played by Menzi Ngubane) caught his son Senzo (Thami Mnqolo) in bed with his boyfriend Jason and proceeded to beat the two with a sjambok.
While this is a rather drastic reaction, Generations hasn't shied away from the issue and actually, they've been rather realistic in their interpretation. Will Sibusiso ever accept the fact that his only son is gay? Who knows, but all the drama in between definitely makes for provocative television.
