Idols 2010 goes Pro

Yes folks, Idols is back. Contain you screams and don't cancel your subscription just yet. They're shaking things up this year with a few changes. Oooh!

First up, we won't be left alone with Liezel van der Westhuizen's repetitive, inarticulate dialogue anymore. She's got a sidekick presenter in the form of rapper ProVerb, who can currently be seen on Survivor SA. He must be popular with the viewers. How do you think these two will work together?

That campy smile in the press photo freaks me out a bit, but let's not put the winner ahead of the votes again, shall we. It's also quite positive that there's an actual musician up there on stage with the contestants. Maybe they'll be great together. Maybe they'll be awful and give us something to laugh at. Either way, I'm curious.

Last season one of the judges, Dave Thompson, immigrated to Australia straight after the season finale, so there's an empty seat next to Mara Louw. It's being filled by Miss Doo Bee Doo herself, Zolani from Freshlyground for the Cape Town auditions. The Johannesburg auditions will be guest judged by Parlotones frontman Khan Morbee. We're super excited about this. They've clearly taken their cue from the American Idol guest judge rounds, where famous singers like Katy Perry and Shania Twain sat in on the audition rounds. They also had some not-so famous singers like Victoria Beckham.

It's not yet clear who will take over the judging once the show moves to the big stage. Any suggestions of who you'd liek to see as an Idols judge?

This is a great way to lend the show some much needed credibility – especially after last year's voting skandaal – and spice it up a bit.

Will you be following Season VI of Idols? Are you going to audition? Let us know!

To get you psyched, watch this video of last season's real winner, Jason Hartman, opening for Kelly Clarkson in Cape Town earlier this month.
