Michael Hutchence's mother dies

Late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence's mother has died.

Patricia Glassop passed away at her home in Queensland, Australia, on Wednesday at the age of 84.

Hutchence's brother Rhett Hutchence announced his mother's death in an internet post, writing: "She looked beautiful and I was happy to have been there for her. Thank you for all your kind words and wishes."

For the last couple of years Patricia, who also has a daughter Tina Hutchence, had unsuccessfully tried persuading Sir Bob Geldof to let her see her granddaughter Tiger Lily, whose father Michael died aged 37 in November 1997 when she was just a baby.

Geldof adopted Tiger Lily after the death of her mother Paula Yates – Geldof's ex-wife – in September 2000 so she could be raised with her half-sisters Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches and Pixie.

Patricia had met Tiger Lily only a handful of times since her birth in 1996 and she claimed last year Bob was refusing to let her see the 14-year-old and she "barely knew" her granddaughter.

She said: "I've begged and pleaded with him to let me see Tiger Lily again, but he's turned a deaf ear. He's treated me shabbily."

Patricia is believed to have last seen her granddaughter in April 2006 when Bob flew her out to Australia for five days.

Patricia said she talked to the schoolgirl about her father Michael and showed her the rocker's music videos. Afterwards Patricia received a letter from her granddaughter saying she had a wonderful holiday and wanted to meet again.
