5 curious couplings that made us go huh?!

Los Angeles — Many greeted the news of Rupert Murdoch's engagement to Jerry Hall with a resounding "Huh?"

The 84-year-old media mogul and the 59-year-old actress announced their betrothal on Tuesday with a classified ad in the London Times, a newspaper owned by Murdoch's News Corp.

While their coupling may be curious, it's hardly the first celebrity pairing to draw attention.

Here are 4 other romantic match-ups that raised eyebrows:

1. Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson

Presley and Jackson became close in the early 1990s. They wed amid a swirl of publicity in 1994, after Jackson faced accusations of child molestation (later settled out of court) and cancelled concerts for health reasons. They divorced two years later.

2. Liza Minnelli and David Gest

The relationship between the Oscar winner and the TV producer was marked by awkward public displays of affection. They married in 2002 and separated 18 months later. After their split, he sued her for $10m claiming she physically assaulted him during their relationship. She countersued over claims he'd stolen $2m in earnings from her performances. They finally filed for divorce in 2007.

3. Sandra Bullock and Jesse James

Bullock edged up her image when she married the custom motorcycle builder in 2005. A cleaned-up James was by the actress' side when she won her best actress Oscar in 2010. A week later, reports surfaced that James had been unfaithful and Bullock cancelled several public appearances. She filed for divorce later that year.

4. Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy

She's a 29-year-old American child star turned fashion designer; he's a 46-year-old French banker and his brother was the country's president. They reportedly wed in November, 2015.
