7 things about winter that only Capetonians will understand!


Cape Town – The only way anyone could love winter is if you’re lucky enough to have a cuddle buddy or if you have the means to go into hibernation for three months. Other than that we’re totally gobsmacked when anyone says they "absolutely love this weather". Huh?

The Western Cape is well-known for it's...well...rather strange weather patterns and sucky winter weather.

Winter in Cape Town usually goes something like this:

1) Horizontal rain. It’s so disrespectful. It just slaps you in the face.

2) It’s raining, the wind is blowing, you’re trying to shield yourself with an umbrella, but things just aren’t working out.

3) One day it’s beautiful and sunny almost like summer. The next a winter rain blizzard has hit! Everyone take cover!

4) When flooding leaves you with gumboots as the only good pair of shoes in your cupboard.
