A timeline of Amanda Bynes' dramatic downward spiral

Los Angeles - Amanda Bynes' parents are relieved she is "safe" after being hospitalised.

A source told People magazine: "They're happy she's safe and that Amanda is finally getting some help."

Amanda has been in and out of the spotlight over the last 4 years, and for all the wrong reasons. We take a look back at the moment Amanda's life took a turn for the worst and snowballed out of control.

June 2010:

Amanda announced via Twitter that she decided to retire from acting. She tweeted that she was not enjoying it and was stopping.

Her mind quickly changed shortly after the tweet when she agreed to appear in Easy A.

March 2012:

Some may say the next few months was when it all started and Amanda started showing signs of problems.

After being silent for more than a year Amanda made a statement by debuting a new hairstyle and speeding away from police after they stopped her for talking on her phone while driving.

April 2012:

Shortly after, Amanda was involved in various law violations including driving into a police car and suspected to be driving under the influence (DUI). She was arrested on a misdemeanour charge of DUI.

The 28-year-old was then involved in another hit and run on a Los Angeles freeway but took to Twitter a month later to deny any accident and DUI allegations.

June 2012:

Amanda pleaded not guilty for her arrest in April and tweeted a plea to President Barack Obama for help, asking him to have the policeman who arrested her to be fired based on her word that she doesn’t drink.

August 2012:

She was involved in another hit-and-run where she rear-ended a women, checked for damages and then left. The women claimed $800 on account that Amanda did not provide insurance details, nor waited for police to arrive on the scene.

September 2012:

Hope started to run dry when gossip website TMZ released pictures of Amanda smoking what looked like a marijuana pipe while driving with a suspended license.

The Easy A’s car was impounded and she was charged with a misdemeanour for reckless driving with a suspended license and illegal parking.

Later in September Amanda spiralled down by locking herself in a clothing store for 2 hours, she was also kicked out of a gym for dressing inappropriately and acting erratically. She then again locked herself in a cupcake shop 10 days after the incident.

November 2012:

Amanda tweeted the first threat to sue InTouch magazine for making false allegations that she pounced around in a tanning salon naked. She said: "I’m not troubled. I don’t get naked in public. I’m 26, a multimillionaire, retired. Please respect my privacy."

February 2013:

Early February, Amanda started her long string of tweets in which she called a number of celebrities 'ugly'. The list of celebrities targeted included Jay Z, Drake, Zac Efron, Jenny McCarthy, President Obama and the First Lady, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Lance Bass and Courtney Love.

April 2013:

The craziness continued after she revealed that she had an eating disorder and requested that the tabloids only use pictures that she uploaded and shared. Some of these pictures included her posing in a black bra and topless.

Amanda also marked the point that she stopped contact with her parents.

May 2013:

Amanda was arrested for smoking and throwing marijuana out her apartment window. She openly denied these claims while appearing in court, wearing a haggard blonde wig and sweat pants.

After her arrest the Twitter rage continued when she accused a NYPD officer for sexually harassing her, an investigation was issued but no evidence supporting her claims were found.

July 2013:

Amanda appeared in court sporting a blue wig, for throwing a bong out her window. Just two weeks later she was placed on a 5105 involuntary psychiatric hold after reportedly trying to start a fire in a stranger’s driveway.

August 2013:

Her psychiatric hold was extended to 30 days and a judge granted her parents temporary conservatorship, allowing them to take hold of all of her assets.

March 2014:

Amanda resurfaced in March of this year with an apparent new take on life. With a clean slate on Twitter, her first tweet was to let her fans know she had started studying at a fashion institute.

October 2014:

Amanda kept under wraps and everything seemed to be getting better until she reportedly regained access to her assets. The first spark of trouble came when she was arrested for driving under the influence.

The She’s The Man star then started making claims that she was engaged to be married and ready to have children. In the same week Amanda also managed to accuse her father of sexual abuse but then later apologised.

The last couple of weeks have been tough as Amanda has been caught shoplifting on two occasions and also banned from certain stores.

The troubled starlet was involuntarily taken to a treatment facility for a second time, after flying back to Los Angeles from New York, and was picked up from the airport by a car service which she believed was taking her to an appointment at a lawyer's office.

Instead, the driver, as instructed by her parents, their attorney Tamar Arminak and Amanda's friend Sam Lutfi - a former confidante of Britney Spears - took her to the clinic in Pasadena.

The insider admitted everyone involved in the plan is relieved to have pulled it off successfully in order to get the Easy A actress some help.

The clinic will make a decision on Tuesday on whether or not Amanda is ready to be released.
