Amanda Bynes placed in psychiatric care

Los Angeles - Amanda Bynes has been hospitalised.

The 28-year-old actress, who has sparked concern for her welfare in recent days, was reportedly placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold after jetting back to Los Angeles from New York City on Friday.

A source told gossip website TMZ.com that the Easy A star was met at LAX by a car service, which she thought was taking her to The London Hotel to meet her estranged parents, Rick and Lynn Bynes, and her lawyer.

However, her concerned family had secretly made arrangements for the driver to take her to a Pasadena hospital instead.

The troubled starlet, who was recently arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and accused of shoplifting, was met at the treatment facility by her parents' laywer, Tamar Arminak, and doctors placed her under an emergency 5150 hold.

Amanda spent approximately five months in a treatment facility after being placed under a 5150 hold in July 2013 after being arrested for starting a small fire in a stranger's driveway.

She was released in December and appeared to be getting her life back on track until her conservatorship - which legally enabled her mother to take care of her and her assets - came to an end recently.

The budding fashion designer will be held for 72 hours and her parents reportedly hope to secure another conservatorship during that time.

Lynn previously denied reports her daughter had been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and Schizophrenia.
