Amanda Bynes is on the road to recovery and is starting with removing her tattoo

Los Angeles - Amanda Bynes is getting her tattoo removed.

The Easy A actress, who was discharged from treatment for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in December after being sectioned for her erratic behaviour, appears to be undergoing laser treatments to erase a pair of black angel wings on her right forearm.

The 27-year-old star's inking appeared increasingly faded as she walked around her parents neighbourhood in Thousand Oaks, California, on Thursday.

Amanda has been living with her parents since she was released from her treatment centre and will soon be starting a fashion design course in Orange County.

The actress recently returned to California after spending some time at the Miracles Fitness Retreat in Utah, a $3 250-per-week fitness spa.

Austan Torson, the owner and personal trainer at the facility, previously said Amanda was focused on getting fit and healthy.

He said: "She was interested in getting healthier... to get in better shape, to lose about five pounds, but mainly to strengthen up and eat healthier."

The star arrived at the retreat on 4 January for the intensive seven-day Fitness Jumpstart program, where she was putting in the hours to ensure she got the most out of it and the trainer thinks it was a "good experience" for her.

Austan said: "I think it was a really good experience for her. She participated in everything we did. She was always up in the morning even though she was tired."
