Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger don't drink when they're apart

Los Angeles - Avril Lavigne and her husband Chad Kroeger don't drink when they're apart.

The Here's To Never Growing Up hitmaker and Nickleback frontman won't go to nightclubs alone and stay away from alcohol in order to keep "out of trouble".

Chad, 38, who tied the knot with Avril in July this year, told People Magazine: "We don't drink when we're apart. Ever. Even if we're apart for weeks.

"We don't want to go anywhere that you're asking for trouble.

"I don't want to be in Europe texting her, like 'Where are you?

"This way we don't have to worry about any of that stuff."

Avril, 29, said they don't feel like they're missing out, adding: "We want to protect what we have."

'Our vacation is our home'

And the couple are not sad at missing out on partying as they love nothing more than being at home.

Chad said: "For us, true happiness is when we're both together and in our own bed. I crave the time I can snuggle up with her and watch a movie."

Avril added: "After our honeymoon, we were like, let's just go home and be married. Really, our vacation is our home."

To keep their marriage strong, the couple have "rules" which include not spending more than two weeks apart.

Avril - who was previously married to Sum-41 rocker Deryck Whibley - is particularly happy as this means her spouse is joining her as she promotes her self-titled new album.

She said: "Chad's been really supportive and coming out with me, which is awesome. I've never really had that before, and it makes it better."
