Backstreet Boy back in rehab

New York - AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys is heading back to rehab.

The singer issued a statement on Thursday confirming that he had checked himself into a rehabilitation centre, citing "personal reasons."

McLean says he knows this year is going to be busy for the Backstreet Boys, so he wanted to be "healthy and perform and sing for people at my very best and happiest."

The Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block are set to tour together this summer. McLean says the tour won't be affected.

Last year ended on a high note as the two boy bands performed in Times Square as part of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2011."

This will be McLean's third stint in rehab. He sought treatment in 2001 and 2002. He turned 33 on January 9.
