Johannesburg – Binnelanders and Liefling star Lika Berning has given birth to her first child.
Berning, daughter of actress Jana Cilliers and director Regardt van den Bergh, said on Monday that Hugo Xavier Berning was born on Saturday around 0:50 in the Park Lane Hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg.
He weighed 4.1 kg.
"It's going well with both of us. It (the birth) was the greatest thing ever. "
Her husband, actor Clyde Berning, and their midwife was with her. They initially planned a water birth. Due to complications they had to drop the water birth and they rushed to the hospital.
There Berning underwent a caesarean.
'Calm and strong'
Her mother arrived at the hospital soon after the birth to meet her grandchild.
"She is ecstatic about Hugo. He is her first grandchild," said Lika.
On Monday Clyde was still bewildered about becoming a father for the first time .
"It's absolutely mindblowing. It's incomparable. Nothing can come close to it."
His parents flew from Plettenberg Bay on Saturday to meet their third grandchild.
"He is very calm and strong. There is a determination in him that I have not seen in other babies," he said.
