The results - which have been published to celebrate the release of the Oscar-nominated film Boyhood on DVD on Monday - aim to show how the experience of boyhood has changed through a generation.

Although over a tenth of fathers feel they can relate to the calamitous relationship between Homer and Bart, the survey found a third of dads feel close to their sons, compared to a generation ago when 45% said their relationship was average at best.
