Britney Spears' ex-boyfriend says they were 'on a break'

Los Angeles - Britney Spears' ex-boyfriend insists he didn't cheat on her.

The 32-year-old singer reportedly dumped David Lucado last week after a video emerged of him canoodling with another woman, but he claims it can't be classed as infidelity because they weren't together at the time.

A source told TMZ.com: "Lucado is telling friends Britney dumped him via text on 6 August."

However, the footage of David kissing and cuddling up to an unidentified woman was taken on 7 August, one day after Britney allegedly called time on their 18-month relationship because of a number of arguments.

The couple then reportedly patched up their differences on 8 August and began dating again until Britney's father Jamie Spears informed her of the video.

Meanwhile, Britney claimed during her Piece of Me show at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas last week that she believes David had cheated on her, but she is looking forward to meeting and dating someone new.

She told the audience between songs: "The best thing about your boyfriend cheating on you is that you get to go on another first date."

Jamie - who has controlled the singer's personal and professional affairs since her breakdown in 2008 - has now reportedly banned David from being able to see or speak to his daughter following the alleged infidelity.
