Britney Spears returns engagement ring

Los Angeles - Britney Spears has returned her engagement ring to Jason Trawick.

The 31-year-old popstar, who shares sons Sean Preston, seven, and Jayden James, six, from her previous marriage to Kevin Federline - reportedly ended her engagement with her 41-year-old fiancé of 13 months because he didn't want to have more children and she has now given him back the 3.5 carat ring he proposed with.

A source told gossip website TMZ.com that although Jason loves her children, he is "in another place" in his life and doesn't want to start a family of his own.

The insider claimed that the couple argued about having children together increasingly often and it was the main reason behind their split.

The popstar wasn't asked to return her diamond ring but decided to anyway.

Jason also felt that his relationship with Britney "took away his individuality" and he is eager to concentrate on his own career as a Hollywood agent but felt he couldn't take on any more clients while he was with Britney.

'I'll always adore him'

The couple are said to have had a clean break, as Britney is the sole owner of the $8.5m home they shared and they have no other outstanding financial issues.

Confirming their split on Friday, Britney insisted she will "always adore" Jason.

She said: "Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends."

Jason insisted he will always cherish Britney and her sons Sean Preston, seven, and Jayden James, six.

He said: "As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever."

While Britney's legal and personal affairs have been in the hands of her father Jamie Spears since her breakdown in 2008, Jason acted as co-conservator but has now been removed after attending court on Friday to discuss Britney's legal situation.
