Cape Town – In an exclusive interview with E! News, Caitlyn Jenner’s surgeons reveal details of the 10 hour surgery that transformed the 65-year-old.
Dr Harrison Lee and Dr Gary Alter – who are both licensed in California and New York - worked as a team with Dr Lee on Caitlyn’s facial feminisation procedure and Dr Alter working on Caitlyn’s body.
Like proud parents, the doctors were excited to boast about the success of the surgery, "I don't want to show off, but I think she's ecstatic with the results," Dr Lee told E! News.
They also took time to explain the main changes Caitlyn had done including softening of the jaw line, a brow lift and breast augmentation surgery and confirmed that Caitlyn did not undergo gender reassignment surgery.
Dr Alter said: "Whether she has a sex change or not is irrelevant in the fact that she is transgender.
"She has not had sexual reassignment surgery."
Dr Lee and Dr Alter also acknowledged how overwhelming the change was. Shortly after Caitlyn’s surgery, the former Olympian "suffered the first panic attack of her life".
While Dr Harrison mentions it was relieved with some anti-anxiety medications, Dr Alter emphasises that it was not out of regret but merely a reaction to the major surgery.
"It can happen to any patient who has surgery, it's not because she had facial feminisation surgery or body surgery. It’s because this was a major change."
In light of the situation the doctors commended Caitlyn for her remarkable recovery, "in Caitlyn’s case, she healed remarkably fast! Maybe it’s because she’s an Olympic athlete.
"At 65, I mean, she is in remarkable health", Dr Lee concluded.
