Los Angeles - Chris Martin splashed out $600 000 for a painting at a charity auction.
The Coldplay rocker, 36, and his Iron Man 3 star wife Gwyneth Paltrow, 41, were among the guests at Sean Penn's star-studded Help Haiti Home Gala at the Montage Beverly Hills on Saturday night, and the Fix You hitmaker couldn't resist bidding for a painting by British street artist Banksy.
The singer was spotted repeatedly holding up his bidder's card emblazoned with the number 453 for the piece of art and his fellow guest Piers Morgan confirmed Chris went home with the prize.
The CNN star, who also got into a $1m bidding war against his colleague Anderson Cooper for a custom Jeff Koons painting featuring Sean Penn, wrote on Twitter: "Blimey... Chris Martin just bid $600 000 for a new Banksy painting at Sean Penn Haiti fundraiser. Gwyneth giggling..."
Chris and Gwyneth, who celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary in early December, enjoyed their second night out on the town in a row and were very affectionate at the event despite usually preferring to keep a low profile.
The couple, who have a nine-year-old daughter, Apple, and seven-year-old son, Moses, also attended the grand opening of fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg's new exhibition, Journey of a Dress, in Los Angeles together on Friday.
