Chris Rock's mother will be his Oscars date if he gets a nomination

Los Angeles - Chris Rock will take his mother to the Oscars on her 70th birthday if he gets a nod - but if not they will go to Fatburger.

The 49-year-old actor's mum turns 70 on the same day as the Academy Awards so as a special birthday treat he has vowed to take her as his guest to the event if he receives a nomination for his comedy movie Top Five, but she'll have to make do with the fast-food restaurant chain if he misses out.

Chris - who wrote, acted in and directed the film - said: "Comedies never get nominated."

"So I'm going to blatantly appeal to the voters. February 22 is my mother's birthday. 70th birthday. If I'm nominated, I will take her to the Oscars. If not, I will take her to Fatburger."

The star was campaigning for votes at the Variety Creative Impact Awards, an annual event held at the at the Parker Palm Springs Resort in California, and while delivering an acceptance speech for winning the Creative Impact in Comedy prize, awarded for his contribution to comedy, he jokingly pretended to forget where he was.

He quipped: "We're out here for ... what are we out here for? The Variety Creative Impact Awards. But, you know, we're trolling for Oscar votes. Let's be honest.

"We gotta pretend like, 'Yeah, I'm always out here. I like cactus. I'm out here.'"
