David Furnish buries hatchet with Madonna

London - David Furnish has praised Madonna as a "great artist".

The Canadian filmmaker and his partner Sir Elton John have taken a number of swipes at the singer throughout this year, but he has now insisted he respects the Ray of Light hitmaker's talent.

David told TMZ.com: "I think she's a great artist (...) she's an inspiration to all of us. Seriously (...) I love her."

It seems there could be a truce between the couple and Madonna as the singer recently said she had "forgiven" Elton for some cruel comments, in which he said she looks like a "fairground stripper" on her "disaster" of an MDNA tour and urged her to bow out gracefully.

Madonna dedicates song to Elton

Dedicating her song Masterpiece to Elton during a gig in France, Madonna said in response: "I know he's a big fan of it. And I know he's a big fan of mine. And you know? I forgive him. Gotta start somewhere."

David branded Madonna "embarrassing" and "desperate" following her Golden Globes win earlier this year after Masterpiece from her directorial debut movie W.E. The movie went on to beat Elton's efforts on animated film Gnomeo and Juliet at the Globes.

Following the announcement, David wrote on Facebook: "Madonna. Best song???? Fuck off!!!

"Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it's narcissism. And her critisism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is.(sic)"
