Dennis Quaid's wife files for divorce

Los Angeles - Dennis Quaid's wife has filed for divorce.

Kimberly Buffington-Quaid - who the star married in 2004 before going on to have twins, Thomas and Zoe, together in 2007 - is asking for spousal support and attorney's fees after ending the six-year union on account of a "conflict of personalities".

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the divorce petition states: "The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities ... that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation."

'Satisfactory settlement'

There is a temporary custody order in place which guarantees both parties access to their children, while Kimberly will keep the couple's main residence and Mercedes vehicle and Dennis gets a beach condo and Cadillac Escalade.

A representative for Kimberly confirmed to E! News: "We can confirm that Kimberly Quaid has filed for divorce. Contrary to what has been reported, a satisfactory settlement is being worked out for both parties."

Dennis has been married twice before; first to actress PJ Soles from 1978 to 1983 and then to his Innerspace co-star Meg Ryan, the mother of his son Jack Henry, from 1991 to 2001.

While Kimberly is asking for the estranged couple's community assets to be fairly divided, the 57-year-old star is reportedly claiming he wants his former spouse to receive "nothing".

Despite this apparent clash of opinion, the temporary order bans both parties from saying anything "vulgar, profane, obscene or indecent" to each other.
