Fans crushed in Beckham stampede

Shanghai - At least seven people have been injured in a stampede after fans stormed a stadium gate to get a glimpse of David Beckham at a Chinese university, The Guardian reported.

Three police officers, two university security guards and two students were injured, Shanghai police said.

The state-run Xinmin Net news site said nearly 1,000 fans had gathered at the university stadium, where the retired footballer was scheduled to meet the university's football team.

Xinmin said the event was cancelled after the stampede.
