Freshlyground's Zolani is pregnant

Cape Town - Freshlyground lead singer Zolani Mahola is pregnant with her first child, reports Times Live.

Zolani revealed the news on Monday, hours before the group jetted of to a five-city tour to the US. The baby will be due in August.

"I have a licence to eat," Zolani joked about her new status. "I've realised that you're only pregnant once, or perhaps a few times in your life, and it's okay - you can gain 10kg."

'I can't be worried'

Zolani said she plans to downsize her schedule significantly from May, skipping out on any major international tours.

"I can't be worried and adding that additional stress to my life. I'm just listening to what my body is saying," she said.

Zolani said that the pregnancy was planned, saying that she and her partner both made a mutual decision to have a baby.

"We're in a good relationship and in a good space in our lives. It feels so good to go into something having thought it [through]," she told The Times.

While in the US, Freshlyground will be honoured by leading New York-based non-profit social investment fund Shared Interest with the inaugural Next Generation Award. Singer Harry Belafonte will also be awarded for his social activism work with the Lifetime of Social Justice and Leadership Award.
