Friends defend Mike Tindall's ex

London - Friends of Jessica Palmer have defended her night of partying with Mike Tindall.

The blonde beauty - a British expatriate who now lives in Australia - caused controversy when she was spotted flirting with her former boyfriend at Altitude bar in New Zealand last month, not long after he married Britain's Zara Phillips, but pals say nothing untoward happened and Jessica is embarrassed by the attention.

Former classmate Vanessa Rooth, 29, who lives in Edinburgh, said: "Jess stayed with me so she could attend [Zara and Mike's] wedding. I have spoken to her and she's upset as this has been blown out of all proportion.

"She's friends with Zara through Mike; she's been around their house and helped them celebrate when they got engaged and married.

"Jess and Mike started off as close friends, had a relationship, but then it petered out and they've remained close friends."

Another friend tweeted Jessica is the "nicest girl in the world who would never do anything untoward with someone's husband".

A piece of the action

As Zara's commitments as an equestrienne prevented her from attending Mike's opening game in the Rugby World Cup, she reportedly even let Jessica have her ticket.

Another source added to Britain's Daily Mail: "Mike asked Jess if she was coming as he knew Zara wouldn't be able to make the first match and could get tickets

"Jess knew Zara wasn't going to be there, but they're all friends and it wasn't seen as a problem. I doubt, though, they would have got so drunk or been so tactile if she had been there."

Meanwhile, The Saturdays singer Una Healy, who is engaged to Mike's teammate Ben Foden, has defended his actions.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Girls see rugby boys out in bars and want a piece of the action, basically. They basically target them. I feel sorry for Mike, it was all something and nothing."
