Gareth Cliff says his show is ‘doing well’ and he is ‘very happy’

Johannesburg – News24 Live’s Jennifer Sanasie sat down with radio DJ, Gareth Cliff, in Johannesburg earlier this week.

During the interview Sanasie asked Cliff, who a few months ago left 5FM to start his very own Cliff Central, about the statistics of his new venture.

The tech blog, MyBroadband, at the end of July released the first official numbers of CliffCentral.com.

The "unradio" project kicked off on 1 May this year and in June had received 47 209 unique users on its website and 282 242 page views.

According to Cliff the podcasts and live streaming of the show is also doing exceptionally well.

"Half a million podcasts have been downloaded. Which is incredible. Certain shows are into the thousands every week," Cliff told Sanasie.

He also added: "The live component is also doing very, very well and we’re very, very happy. It’s not a question of getting people to listen or data costs. It’s about changing people’s habits."

Channel24 in June reported that CliffCentral and Comedy Central would part ways just a month and a half after it launched on the TV channel as a simulcast web show.

The internet radio shown on TV experiment failed to attract enough viewers wanting to "listen" and watch it on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform.

Cliff denied reports that he was "dropped" by Comedy Central. After a media enquiry to Comedy Central they responded by saying it was a "mutual decision" to cancel the show.

The TV channel said they were "consciously uncoupling" with Gareth.
