Cape Town - Outgoing Proteas captain Graeme Smith is engaged to his Irish girlfriend Morgan Deane, reports TimesLive.
Cricket SA media officer Michael Owen-Smith confirmed: "It is true. He actually became engaged on Sunday."
Social networking sites Facebook and Twitter were abuzz on Sunday with congratulations for the couple.
Deane retweeted a photograph of herself together with Smith on Sunday with the accompanying message: "Congratulations to @GraemeSmith49 and @morgandeane on their engagement. Fantastic news! http://yfrog.com/h2sb3vmj"
Owen-Smith reportedly said Smith would not be returning to South Africa until after the Indian Premier League tournament, which runs from this Friday until May 28.
Smith plays for the Pune Warriors, which is captained by World Cup winner, Yuvraj Singh.
Smith has previously dated model Minki van der Westhuizen, and teacher Brigitte Sarembock.
The Proteas captain, who crashed out of the 2011 Cricket World Cup at the quarter-final stage, came under fire for choosing to avoid facing the music in South Africa and travelling straight to Ireland instead to spend time with Deane.
Smith has not returned to South Africa since exiting the World Cup.
