Cape Town - Outgoing Proteas captain Graeme Smith has reportedly proposed to his Irish girlfriend Morgan Deane.
Social networking sites were abuzz with congratualtions for the couple over the weekend, according to Eye Witness News.
On Sunday, Deane retweeted a photograph of herself together with Smith with the accompanying message: "Congratulations to @GraemeSmith49 and @morgandeane on their engagement. Fantastic news! http://yfrog.com/h2sb3vmj"
There has been no official confirmation of the engagement. Cricket South Africa (CSA) would not comment on Smith’s private life and the cricketer's Twitter account has not been updated since March 16.
The Proteas captain, who crashed out of the 2011 Cricket World Cup at the quarter-final stage, came under fire for choosing to avoid facing the music in South Africa and travelling straight to Ireland instead to spend time with Deane.
Smith has not returned to South Africa since exiting the World Cup.
