Gwyneth Paltrow talks to Marie Claire about Chris Martin

Los Angeles - Gwyneth Paltrow has insisted that there was nothing "dramatic" about her split from Chris Martin.

The Iron Man 3 actress - who "consciously uncoupled" from the Coldplay frontman in March 2014 after ten years of marriage - admitted she "hit a wall" in her personal life before the pair parted.

Asked what led to the pair separating, she shared: "There was nothing dramatic.

"I had built my life on trying to be all things to all people, and I just couldn't do it anymore, and I really had the sense that I wasn't allowed to have needs, and I had to prove my specialness or self-worth by doing all this stuff and taking care of everybody else, and I just sort of hit a wall."

The 42-year-old actress - who has Apple, 10 and Moses, eight, with the A Sky Full Of Stars hitmaker - revealed that the pair have worked "really hard" on their friendship and hopes the way they handled the split made things "more whole and happier" for their two children.

She said: "We've worked really fucking hard to get to this point. But we're very, very close, and it's so nice.

"I feel like it's, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have."

Meanwhile, Gwyneth revealed that she can be "misunderstood" but went on to admit that she has said some "stupid things" in the past.

She told the February issue of Marie Claire magazine: "Look, one of the disadvantages of having been famous for so long is I've said some stupid things.

"But when words are put into my mouth, those are the situations I feel aren't quite fair."
