Heat readers select Bey as their fav celeb!

Cape Town - After thousands of votes, American singer and actress Beyoncé has been named South Africa’s favourite celebrity in the ultimate celebrity popularity test, the eleventh annual heat Hot 100 (brought to you by SABC 1, 2 and 3).

The highest ranking South African star is Idols SA season six winner Elvis Blue at number two; the position he retains for a second year in a row as the successful recording artist was also named runner-up in 2013 (losing out to actress and model Boity Thulo who walked away with top honours last year).

Local actress Alex McGregor of the Spud films fame and Olympic gold medalist Ryk Neethling, a consistent favourite, also managed to make it into the top five this year.

It is the first time since 2007 that a South African celebrity did not walk away as king or queen of Celebville, as voted for by readers of the popular celebrity magazine.

Ryk Neethling managed to win the poll three times (2008, 2009 and 2012), while other local celebrities who managed to walk away with top honours in previous years included LCNVL (2010), Oscar Pistorius (2011) and Boity Thulo (2013). Other (international) winners were Victoria Beckham (2004), Brad Pitt (2005), Johnny Depp (2006) and Wentworth Miller (2007).

Editor of heat magazine, Andre Neveling, says: "What sets heat Hot 100 apart from other local celebrity popularity competitions is the fact that local stars have to compete against their international counterparts. So for any South African celebrity to make it onto the top 100 list is a massive achievement."

Neveling adds: "It’s clear that Queen Beyoncé can do no wrong in the eyes of her multitude of fans, despite the ups and downs of an interesting year for her, which we regularly report on. But she’s such a worthy winner – few artists can boast with her achievements year after year. We’re also very proud of Elvis Blue for achieving such great results for the second consecutive year. Maybe 2015 will be the year that he finally secures that sought after top spot."
