Los Angeles - James Franco insists he doesn't take himself too seriously.
The Interview actor - who is currently gearing up to complete his PhD. in English Literature in Yale - has been criticised for carving out other careers as a poet and painter, but claims he has a very healthy perspective on life.
He said: "People might have the impression I'm trying to prove something, but I'm doing this for myself. I have a sense of humour about how people perceive what I'm doing as strange - I love being able to mock myself."
He added: "I know most people don't think of me as funny, but I actually have a good sense of humour, and I love comedy."
The 36-year-old star teamed up with his close pal and former Freaks and Geeks co-star Seth Rogen to film a spoof of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West's Bound 2 music video and James hopes they will work together again.
He told America's OK! magazine: "Seth probably makes me laugh more than anyone else, and he's a very gifted writer. I would do just about anything with him - and having done the Kim and Kanye video, I'd say we almost have."
