Jennifer Lopez: My divorce tore me apart

Los Angeles - Jennifer Lopez felt like her "whole life had fallen apart" when she split from ex-husband Marc Anthony.

The 43-year-old singer - who is dating her back-up dancer Casper Smart - found it "very difficult" to get out of bed each morning after Marc filed for divorce in April 2012, following their seven-year marriage.

"It was very hard to get up in the morning. Very hard. When you're depressed and sad all the time it's very difficult," Jennifer said in a recent interview with Daily Mirror.

'An explosion'

"I felt like my whole life had fallen apart. What I had known for seven or eight years with my children and everything, it was just... boom! An explosion!"

Following their split, Jennifer - who has four-year-old twins Max and Emme with the singer - went straight into filming action movie Parker with Jason Statham, and while she admits it was a "very disappointing" time in her personal life, she was able to show her real emotions in the film.

"It was very personal and very disappointing but actually great for the movie because the character was very much like that as well," she explained.

"So I could use all those feelings and all that sadness. I am just one of those people who doesn't give up and I know if you just hang on you will live and you will love again.

'Dancing and singing'

"You have to hold on, it's going to happen again, it's going to be OK. Things are hard and I feel like we grow and we learn the most in those moments and trust me, I had to remind myself of this all the time."

Following the disappointment of her marriage ending, Jennifer insists she feels "better now" than she did when she was in her 20s and doesn't even consider getting older.

She added to the Daily Mirror: "I feel very good ... very youthful and kind of timeless in a sense. I don't think of myself as getting older - I just think of how I feel.

"I just toured the world and was dancing and singing every single night and I didn't feel I was any less than I was when I was 28. In fact I probably feel better now than I did then!"
