Justin Bieber's Billboard cover is everything right about his comeback!

Los Angeles – Justin Bieber is campaigning for the debut of his latest album, Purpose, and while he may have had a rocky start, Bieber gave Billboard magazine low down of his life at the moment.

From almost letting fame destroy him, the 21-year-old singer insists his first album in three years is totally different from anything he's done before.

He confessed: "In the past I've recorded songs that I didn't like, that I wouldn't listen to, that the label was telling me to record."

Instead, the What Do You Mean? hitmaker has made the type of music he personally enjoys on his new collection - releasing on 13 November - and revealed he was more focused on the album being "inspiring" than featuring lots of hits.

He said: "I'm self-expressing with this album - I can't skip on the moments that were dark, the moments that were happy, the ex-girlfriend stuff. It makes it real, rather than 'Let's call up Max Martin to write you a hit song.' I want my music to be inspiring."

And having admitted his former girlfriend Selena Gomez influenced the LP, he said he still has feelings for her because they shared such an important part of their lives.

He told Billboard magazine: "When you love someone that much, even if something comes between you, it's a love that never really dies."

Meanwhile Justin Bieber's relationship with his mother is "pretty non-existing".

The Sorry singer goes on to admit his connection with Pattie Mallette has declined in the last two years because she was "disappointed" in his wild behaviour.

He said: "I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust."

While he has been estranged from his mother - who gave birth to Justin when she was just 17 - he is very close to his dad, Jeremy Bieber.

Though he concedes his father was "not in a place to raise a kid," Bieber believes the misconception Jeremy was a "deadbeat dad" is very unfair.

He told Billboard magazine: "He was immature. He left for like a year when I was about four, went to British Columbia and came back on Father's Day.

"There's a misconception that he's this deadbeat dad, but he has been in my life since. I was with him on weekends and Wednesdays."
