Johannesburg - Sekoati Tsubane, who plays Kabelo Padi in popular soap 7de Laan, is claiming that the reason for his recent visit to an alleged drug den was to do "research" for a music video.
It was speculated that 30-year-old Tsubane had visited a tik house in Manenberg in the Cape Flats in August.
According to Tsubane he did not visit a "tik house" but the home of a former rehabilitated gang member.
"The whole thing has been taken out of context," Tsubane told Rapport on Friday.
"I didn’t even go inside the house. I stayed in the car. The ex-gangster got into the vehicle and showed us around the neighbourhood.
"We were looking for material for a music video. Nobody used tik. I don't even know what tik looks like."
'I worked out'
Tsubane says they also took a tour of Hanover Park, Mitchells Plain and Belhar.
He does however admit that he used cocaine and marijuana in the past.
"Come on dude, it's the entertainment business...you experiment.
"But I don't do that stuff anymore.
"If you had to look at my drug test now, you will only find traces of whisky and brandy."
He also added that his recent weight loss can not be attributed to marijuana use.
"I worked out."
"But I have a belly now," he says. "I haven't been working out lately. And I eat a lot of junk food these days."
A mistake
He describes his Twitter tirade in which he lashed out against 7de Laan as a mistake.
He tweeted: "I need a raise for this shit. How long must I put up with this!"
He explains: "I didn't understand how Twitter worked at the time. The message was meant for a colleague. Then the whole world saw it.
"I had an argument with one of the directors earlier that day about a certain scene."
Tsubane's ex-girlfriend Zoleka Mandela told the Sunday World newspaper last week that she left him due to his problems with drug abuse.
"I left Zoleka. I wrote very cruel things about her on Facebook, that I shouldn't have. I was drunk when I wrote those things. Things got ugly after that.
"I am not going to insult Zoleka, but she is trying to excuse herself. Both of us used cocaine. We both went to a rehabilitation centre for drug abuse."
