Kate Middleton too thin for UK media

London - With just over two weeks to go to Britain's royal wedding, the tabloid press has turned its attention to the increasingly slender frame of Kate Middleton.

Like any bride, Kate wants to look her best on the day, but her slimming regime could have gone too far, some commentators suggested on Wednesday.

On her last public engagement before the wedding earlier this week, Kate looked "noticeably thinner" than just four months ago, said the Daily Mirror.

The paper's royal reporter observed that Kate may have dropped two dress sizes since her engagement announcement in November, probably following a strict diet and workout routine.

Diana's ring

But Ingrid Seward, an author on royal affairs, believes it's just nerves.

"She (Kate) has looked very thin for a long time but what is probably driving this weight-loss is adrenaline," Seward told the Mirror on Wednesday.

The young bride probably had a "knot in her stomach" and was finding it hard to eat.

"She is preparing for the biggest day of her life and is going to be on display to the world. It is vitally important to her she pulls this off," commented Seward.

Kate was also a "keen sportswoman", liked to eat sensibly and drank very little alcohol, Seward related.

The Sun reported that Kate's fingers had become so slim that her famous engagement ring - the blue sapphire band once worn by Princess Diana- has had to be shrunk.

Kate's wave

According to the Daily Mail, Kate's "regal reinvention" extended to teeth straightening and whitening, as well as a taming of her tumbling locks into a "carefully pinned back" style.

The makeover has led to a change in behaviour, body language expert Judi James told the Mail.

"There is a definite change in the way Kate is carrying herself. Her head is now held higher and her shoulders have dropped, as though she has been told to stand straighter," James said.

However, despite her outer calm, it was clear that Kate was suffering from "pre-wedding jitters".

Etiquette expert Jean Broke-Smith found that Kate's wave still left something to be desired.

"Kate's wave is still distinctly unregal," she said. It needed to be transformed into "a more subtle lifting of the hand, to acknowledge the crowd, but never having her fingers apart".
