Kate Middleton's dress raises £10m

Los Angeles - Britain's Kate Middleton's wedding dress has helped to raise £10m.

More than 600 000 people queued to catch a glimpse of the iconic gown - designed by Sarah Burton and worn on the royal's April 29 wedding to Prince William - while it was on display at Buckingham Palace for 10 weeks this summer.

While palace officials are yet to release the final figure raised by the exhibition - of which the majority of the proceeds will go to the Royal Collection for maintenance of paintings and treasures held at the residence - it is expected to reach over £10m.

Charity

Kate Middleton has also expressed a wish that a portion of the proceeds will go to various charitable organisations.

A spokesperson for the Royal Collection said: "We've enjoyed welcoming visitors from all over the world to Buckingham Palace in record numbers this summer.

"It has been an incredibly busy few months and we're delighted that it's been such a huge success."

The wedding dress is now to be put into storage and is not expected to go on public display again for a number of years amid fears the gown's delicate lacework on the body and arms will be damaged by general wear and tear.
