Kate Winslet to return to Necker Island

Los Angeles - Kate Winslet has been invited back to Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island just months after she saved his grandmother from a blazing fire on the landmass.

The Virgin tycoon has asked the Titanic star and her boyfriend Ned RocknRoll - who is Richard's nephew - if they would like to spend Christmas and New Year on his £60m private island, where they met in the summer when a fire broke out at the Great House after it was struck by lightning.

The 36-year-old actress - who was holidaying with her children, Mia, 11, and seven-year-old Joe - heroically carried the businessman's 90-year-old mum Eve out of the mansion, which was destroyed in the blaze.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Richard's invited her and the kids back to thank her for her bravery in saving his mother."

Dramatic chapter

Richard is currently fixing the house ahead of the wedding of his daughter Holly - who was also in the Great House when the fire swept through the property - later this month.

The Oscar-winning actress has since described her escape from the mansion as a "dramatic chapter in a movie" and praised Holly's "totally unflappable and utterly practical" actions on the night.

She revealed: "It happened very fast. Richard's daughter Holly became head girl immediately. Totally unflappable and utterly practical. Her calm instructions set the tone for an efficient evacuation and significantly helped to keep the hysteria under control. Flames were licking towards us.

"I just knew we had to go fast and I didn't want to alarm my children any more than they already were. I know it sounds like a dramatic chapter in a novel or a movie, but nobody was about to shout, 'Cut!'

"I'm just glad everyone is safe. This easily could not have been the case."
