Kate to make first solo trip without Prince George

London - The Duchess of Cambridge is making her first official solo trip abroad.

Kensington Palace says Kate, Prince William's wife, will travel to Malta on 20-21 September and represent Queen Elizabeth II as the Mediterranean island nation celebrates 50 years of independence.

The duchess has so far only travelled on official visits abroad with William. Earlier this year the couple visited Australia and New Zealand, bringing along their baby Prince George, who turns one on Tuesday.

Officials said on Monday that George will not be making an appearance in Malta, as his mother will only be spending one night away from home.
