Los Angeles - Kelly Clarkson is not a lesbian.

The Stronger singer has been dogged by rumours about her sexuality but insists that if she was gay, she would just come out and say it.

She said: "I'm not gay. If I was, I'd say: 'I love women!' That's why it drives me nuts. But I feel like even if I did say it, people would be like, 'you're just trying to do that to win the gay audience'."

Kelly, 29, admits she is confused by the public's obsession with her love life, but says she enjoys being a single lady.

'I've never been in love'

She told Now Magazine: "People are really concerned about my relationship status.

"When I tell people I'm happy being single, they don't believe me. They say: 'You have to be miserable being alone'."

The former American Idol winner previously admitted she has never been in love, but believes all that will change when she meets the right man.

She told USA Today: "I've never been in love. I've never experienced certain things, and I think that's because I have this side of me that is shut off. Because I haven't found anybody yet to open to that I feel like, 'OK, you're worth breaking down that wall for'. I've never found that."
