Kim Kardashian and Kanye West might have to postpone their wedding due to French law dilemma

Los Angeles - Kim Kardashian and Kanye West may have to cancel their wedding.

The couple is set to tie the knot in Paris on 24 May, but they may have to reschedule their big day after discovering the French law requires a strict 40-day residency before they can get married in the country.

The French Embassy in Washington DC told RadarOnline: "All marriages must be performed by a French civil authority before any religious ceremony takes place.

"The mayor can authorise the deputy mayor or a city councillor to perform the ceremony in the town in which one of the parties to be married has resided for at least 40 days preceding the marriage.

"These requirements cannot be waived."

The 36-year-old rapper reportedly has an apartment in the French capital but he doesn't live there full-time as he currently resides in California with Kim, 33.

Meanwhile, the couple - who have 10-month-old daughter North together - were keen for their wedding day to be an experience their 200 guests will never forget, so they have hired out the Trianon Palace Hotel for them to stay in.

A source said previously: "Guests will be greeted with goodie bags containing £300 bottles of Bollinger champagne, £120 Creme de la Mer products, handmade souvenir trinkets with Kim and Kanye's initials etched in Swarovski crystals, bottles of scent from local perfumeries and £150 vouchers for treatments at the hotel spa."
