Lily Allen loses baby

London - The 25-year-old singer, who was six months pregnant with a baby boy, was rushed to hospital on Thursday morning complaining of stomach pains, but efforts to save her unborn child over the weekend have failed.

Her spokesperson said: "It is with great sadness that we have to confirm that Lily Allen and Sam Cooper have lost their baby. The couple ask that their privacy be respected and that they be left alone at this deeply distressing time. No further comment will be made".

Lily announced in August that she was pregnant with builder boyfriend Sam Cooper following a successful three-month scan.

The Smile hitmaker said: "The weird thing about being pregnant is that it seems to give people the license to talk about your body shape and say things like 'Wow you have got so big!'. Thanks, I always say, 'I'm embracing it.'"

It is the second time the British star has lost a child following a miscarriage of a baby with former partner Ed Simmons in 2007.

Speaking late last year about her feelings following her first miscarriage, Lily admitted it was the "worst time of her life" because she repressed a lot of her emotions.

She explained: "I didn't even start beginning to deal with it until the baby's due date. Then it hit me like a house collapsing.

"The week before the due date, all I wanted to do was talk about my baby but I also felt I shouldn't. I was working non-stop and I had all this inside my head. I still get sad. I still think. I don't mark what would have been my baby's birth but it's always there. It changed a lot."
