Los Angeles - Lindsay Lohan and her father have spoken for the first time in seven months.
The troubled actress and dad Michael Lohan met on Sunday at the Betty Ford rehabilitation centre, where Lindsay is currently receiving treatment.
A source said: "Lindsay met Michael at Betty Ford and the pair spent hours together... it was not a fleeting encounter, this appeared well-planned in advance.
"They also went shopping at a local Palm Desert mall, where they were seen walking around together and at one point, were in a jewellery store."
Lindsay's idea
Sources close to Lindsay say it was her idea to meet with Michael, while her mother and Michael’s ex-wife Dina was in New York.
The source added to RadarOnline.com: "Michael turned up at Betty Ford with some gifts and items for Lindsay. He is prepared to do anything to get it right this time.”
Michael – who has previously spoken about his fears over Lindsay, saying she is addicted to prescription drugs – refused to talk about their meeting, but did say the 24-year-old star was doing well.
He said: "I have pledged not to comment about anything relating to my daughter.
"However, what I will say is that I am an incredibly proud father tonight. My daughter is progressing extraordinarily well."
Lindsay has previously claimed Michael is the cause of her problems, saying: "I think my biggest focus for myself is learning how to continue to get through the trauma that my father has caused in my life."
Lindsay was ordered by a Los Angeles court to stay in rehab until January 3, 2011 after she tested positive for cocaine during a random drug test in September.
