Lindsay Lohan turns down plea bargain

Los Angeles - Lindsay Lohan has reportedly rejected a plea bargain because she claims she doesn't have a drinking problem.

The actress' lawyer Mark Heller had a telephone consultation on Wednesday with Santa Monica and Los Angeles City prosecutors to try and strike a deal to avoid jail time for her car crash last June - for which she is facing charges of resisting, obstruction, providing false information to a police officer and reckless driving - but Lindsay has categorically refused the conditions of spending time in a residential rehab facility.

The actress and her lawyer have apparently reached deadlock because she is adamant she won't suffer "punishment for something [she] didn't do", so even when prosecutors suggested 30 days in rehab instead of the original 60, the lawyer didn't accept the offer.

A source connected with the case told TMZ: "Negotiations are ongoing."

Offer made to Lindsay

It was reported yesterday the Mean Girls star allegedly smelled of alcohol when she was arrested on the Pacific Coast Highway and an unspecified bottle of alcohol was found next to her Porsche.

The LA City prosecutors were offering her 60 days in rehab and Lindsay - who has suffered from drug and alcohol addictions in the past - would be expected to attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings and undertake community service under close supervision.

If a deal isn't made, Lindsay will have to appear in court on 18 March.
