Liz and Shane's issues caused by his ex-wife?

Los Angeles - Liz Hurley and Shane Warne reportedly split up over his ex-wife.

The 48-year-old actress-turned-model has reportedly called time on her two-year engagement with the cricketing legend because she was suspicious of his cosy relationship with his former spouse Simone Callahan.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Liz found out he had been over at Simone's house a lot. She seemed to get the idea that something more than friendship was going on."

The Australian star's ten-year marriage with Simone - the mother of his three children, Brooke, Summer and Jackson - hit the rocks in 2005 following allegations of infidelity on his behalf with a 25-year-old student, but just two years later the pair had rekindled their romance.

However, in 2010, Shane confirmed he was no longer with Simone after he was spotted canoodling with Liz outside a London restaurant, before popping the question to the brunette beauty with a stunning sapphire ring less than a year later.

Best friends

The source said: "Friends always thought that Liz would be a flash in the pan and that Shane would go back to Simone and the kids eventually. In the past few months they've grown close again."

Shane has set up home in the UK with Liz, but has been jetting back Down Under regularly to spend time with his kids and ex-wife.

The source explained: "Despite everything, he's always been welcome to stay at the family home in Melbourne whenever he likes.

"It is felt now the kids are getting older, they need their dad around. Liz couldn't ever handle Shane and Simone still being best friends.

"He's never made any secret of the fact that he'll always love Simone and be a part of her life."
