The 55-year-old writer has reportedly told friends she will file papers to legally end their union after deciding she cannot forgive him.
The pair split after 25 years together after he confessed he had fathered a 14-year-old son with their former housekeeper Mildred 'Patty' Baena.
A close friend of Maria's told RadarOnline.com: "Maria absolutely will be filing for divorce.
"It's not a matter of if Maria will file for divorce, but when."
Catholic beliefs
Although she had hired celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her in her split from the Terminator actor, friends were unsure if she would go ahead with it plans because of strong Catholic beliefs.
However, it has since emerged that Maria suspected Arnold of having affairs with numerous members of their household staff.
Although she "didn't suspect for one second" that the 63-year-old star had fathered a child with Patty, she reportedly had her suspicions about other workers.
A former employee said: "Maria didn't suspect for one second that Patty was messing about with her husband. But there were others who she wasn't quite so sure about.
"It's perhaps little surprise that after suspicions were aroused, they subsequently didn't last long in employment."
