Matthew McConaughey still gets naked and plays the bongos

Los Angeles - Matthew McConaughey still gets naked to play his bongo drums.

The hunky actor enjoys stripping off to make music but makes an effort to be more discreet since his October 1999 arrest at his home in Austin, Texas, which he was subsequently fined for disturbing the peace when police discovered him dancing in the nude whilst banging his drums.

Speaking to the new US issue of GQ magazine, Matthew - who has been married to Brazilian model Camila Alves since 2006 and has three children, son Levi, daughter Vida and son Livingston, with her -said: "Of course I still play the congas naked, I just close the windows."

The 44-year-old actor also spoke about how he didn't understand the public's perception of him - until now.

He mused: "Now I get it: outdoors, shirtless on the beach, does a lot of rom-coms, girlfriend loves him, good looking. It's like he rolls out of bed and shows up and makes it look easy."

'I'm looking for great experiences'

Matthew hopes his more recent roles in movies such as Magic Mike, Mud and The Paperboy will change people's perception of him and prove his versatility as an actor.

He explained: "As you get older, you're supposed to get better, there should be ascension."

Matthew has been creating an Oscar buzz with his role as real life Aids victim Ron Woodroof in his latest movie Dallas Buyers Club.

Speaking of his film the actor claims he didn't take on the role in hope of receiving an Academy Award, but to broaden his career.

He recently said: "There's nothing out there that I am chasing. I want my work to translate. I'm looking for great experiences."
