Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas will reportedly divide their assets amicably

Los Angeles - Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas are expected to divide their assets amicably.

The former couple, who recently filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage, reportedly have a combined fortune of more than $50m, but friends insist they have always been very careful with their money and are unlikely to let it come between them.

A source told PEOPLE magazine: "Obviously, money never seemed to be an issue with them. I don't think you'll find out that they're divorcing over money."

The insider said the duo are "worth more than you think" and that the Shrek actor "is a shrewd businessman; he has a lot of investments and business interests.

"He doesn't brag about it, but if you ask him, he loves to talk business. He loves to talk about what makes money and what doesn't. He's very, very smart and savvy with his money."

The 53-year-old actor has a lot of investments, including commercial real estate in Los Angeles and Miami, as well as several restaurants and homes in Aspen, Spain, LA and New York City with the 56-year-old actress.

The source added: "Melanie's no slouch either; they don't spend money they don't have. They are very proud of that."

The Hollywood couple first got together after meeting on the set of the 1995 film Two Much, and have a 17-year-old daughter, Stella.
