Minki: I had no suspicions

Cape Town - "On a scale of 1 to 10, my happiness is off the charts!"

This is what model and TV presenter Minki van der Westhuizen told Die Burger from Italy on Wednesday.

She had just gotten engaged to her boyfriend, Ernst Joubert, 31, the former rugby captain of the Lions.

The couple have been dating since August 2010.

"I had no suspicions. John Daneel in Stellenbosch made me the most beautiful ring ever. We got engaged in the small town Conca dei Marini on the Amalfi coast of Italy. "

Joubert currently plays for the Saracens in London, England.

'Something clicked'

Van der Westhuizen's personal life has been in the spotlight over the last few years after she was in a relationship with Proteas cricket captain Graeme Smith.

After that she was married to Stellenbosch businessman Constant Visser.

"I still work regularly in South Africa, so I travel a lot. But at this stage St Albans, just north of London, is 'home' - until we return to South Africa."

She is currently modelling in London and around Europe.

Huisgenoot reported earlier that she and Joubert met each other through mutual friends one night.

In the article she said that they had already known each other, but that "something clicked" on that specific night.

South African blonde

Meanwhile she's enjoying life in the small English town with its rural atmosphere.

"We would like to get married in South Africa."

She and Joubert will be in South Africa in January when Saracens play against Biarritz in the Heineken Cup tournament. The game will be played in Cape Town.

Van der Westhuizen is, however, not the only South African blonde girlfriend of a player at Saracens.

Karlien van Jaarsveld, singer Bobby van Jaarsveld's sister, has been in a three-month relationship with Derick Hougaard, 28, who also plays for the club.

John Smit, former Springbok captain and his wife, Roxanne, fly to London on Monday, where he will also play rugby for Saracens.
